On my Benz, its typical high-performance engine requires a high-pressure and freer-flowing lubrication system to meet the vehicle's engine-depended systems, such as A/C, electrical functions, suspension, etc. One time, I used a paper-based filter made by a popular brand filter co. in orange packaging box (and respective change of the full synthetic engine oil). Shortly after 4K miles, the metal oil filter cap that houses the filter began leaking oil out through the screw-grooves. I thought it was caused by the loose cap; I then tightened it. It was still leaking oil out. Occasionally, I cleaned the oil up until after 7500 miles were driven when I thought I needed a new oil cap and time for the oil and filter change. Then, I suddenly thought that my oem engine oil filter was not a paper-based medium but a "cloth-like" fleece material. The right tool for the job
We have a Sprinter-based RV and I prefer to do my own basic maintenance. I had tried to find something a bit less expensive, and tried a strap wrench, a cheaper set of cap wrenches, a conventional oil filter wrench and my bare hands. Because of the tight confines around the oil filter I could not use any wrench with a handle and the other cap wrenches just didn't fit properly. I learned my lesson: buy the correct tool the first time and it's less expensive in the long run. This tool worked perfectly and took all the frustration out of changing the Sprinter's oil filter--this is on a 2008 V-6 diesel.

Assenmacher Specialty Tools M 0284 Oil Filter Housing Wrench for Mercedes 3.0L CRD
An absolute must if you are going to change your oil. My dealer didn't even have them in stock and wanted 4 times the price for one he had to order. Non of the parts stores had them either. Just go ahead and order it. Be advised that you will also need an oil extractor as MB didn't put a drain plug in the oil pan - dumb asses.....

Great filter - Amazon's application list is wrong though.
Great high quality filter, what more is there to say. K&N always delivers top notch items.(although this one is imported from Germany - which is likely a Mann brand filter - still the best) Now the problem. Amazon says this part HP-7004 will not fit a Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 (also for NA engine)....wrong, this is the correct item and confirmed with K&N. Top to learn more
K&N OIL FILTER_MERC
I have a 1998 Mercedes E320 4Matic, recommended oil change interval is 10,000 miles, but system auto flags when it is required. Using the K&N filter and european standard amsoil my car went beyond 12,000 miles before the system flagged up that change was necessary, total mileage covered was approx 14,000 when I did the oil change and system still flagged 300 miles to go before it was required. better than original equipment
First time I change the filter on my C300, bought new 9 months ago. Fits the C300 perfectly, actually it fits better than the original filter. There are better manufacturing details than the original which looks a bit flimpsy when compared to the K&N filter. I may try Mann next time because you could usually get Mann for a little less but it looks exactly like the K&N. Top to learn more

It was a great buy until the price was jacked up
Great stuff, one of the best synthetic oils out there. Use it gas and diesels vehicles and it's certified by many manufactures for both uses. Sad to they just jacked the price up so I'm back to my local NAPA store for a lower price. To bad for Amazon as it was the place to buy this great motor oil. Different grades different certifications; 5-40W is the only one with certification for TDI and other diesel engines as well as all gas engines. Great stuff if you run a multi-fuel fleet. 2006 VW Jetta TDI 1.9L
I've used Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W40 in my 2006 Jetta TDI from 50,000 to 70,000 miles. I think it's a great oil that holds up as good, if not better than, Castrol SLX or Pentosin. I'm not tearing the wheels off my car, but I have a two hour commute to work and I average about 75 to 80 MPH on the highway. The price is good also! Top to learn more

good stuff
i have an 04 vw jetta 1.8t (Turbocharged) so the synthetic stuff is what it needs. i changed my oil and drove from NJ to Boise, ID at speeds averaging around 80 mph. that's alot of stress on the oil, but it did great. i'm just trying to buy some more, but it's so hard to get. i wish it was easier to find.
